Sony Creative Science Award 2009

My son received a flyers from his teachers to take part in a competition with a toy creation. The criteria is that it must come with spring(s) and will make people laugh... We scratched our heads for weeks and brainstormed on the possibilities. At last, we decided to work on a tortoise with a bouncing shell, shaking its tail and surrounded by moving plants, all with springs!

I'm glad that all the materials came from the stuffs in my kitchen, from plastic containers of ice-cream, honey, packet food to the plastic balls from health pills. It looks as though I have a big recycle bin there!

As usual, I guided my boy on the modelling, cuttings, paintings, sticking and assembling to as far as he can be involved. There were trial and error and times where things fail to work out well, but we persisted to hold on and were able to be flexible enough to change our method (strategy).

When we managed to complete the tortoise, we find ourselves making another project with a couple shaking their heads! Crafting can be very addictive so craft with cautious, folks!
