Grasshopper at Singapore Garden Festival

Image
This was the 3rd time for me and my son to visit Singapore Garden Festival since they were here in 2006 and 2008. It's like a must visit exhibition for us since flowers and plants will simply light up our day. Besides the many flower arranging ideas using all sorts of media and materials, I'm always amazed by their creativity and innovations. Besides all the beautiful flower artworks, one of the kiosk is a must visit too. NPark will always be there to educate and entertain the young and old about the nature. These year, I'm overjoyed to know that they're teaching something I've long waited for. I'm really glad to be there. We queued up for our turn and after all the twists and turns, a grasshopper was created. Amazing, this is the grasshopper! I didn't know it's such an easy craft to make from a fallen leaves of a coconut tree! Within a short 30 minutes, a wish that had made for years fulfilled! Of course, I asked for...

Fond Memories

Image
I've probably forgotten quite a number of the things I've made with recycle stuffs. As I visited my dad at his house at Punggol, I found this photo frame which I made many many years ago. It was still attached with a photo taken at that time when my nephews and nieces were just little boys and girls. Times phewwww past! Actually the frame was passed down decades ago from my ah mah. Someone could have dumped it if I've not furnished it with sands and seashells. Looking at it now really reminds me of those fond memories. So, think twice when you're throwing something away. It could be a precious piece of memory to remind you of the days gone by...

Christmas Affair - Pussy Willow Christmas Deco

Image
Time for decorations this festive season! To me, Christmas is the most beautiful holiday of all round the year. Beside all sought of beautiful decorations and lightings that's up at shopping malls, the white and snowy feel at the other end of the world (have to experience that one day) can bring some excitement here in Singapore. Not forgetting my go green principle, I transformed my 07 New Year pussy willow into a mini Christmas tree. About 11 months after the Lunar new year, it has certainly dried up. I coated the branches lightly with white water based paint for that snowy effect, hanged some silver baubles on the branches and twisted some lightings on it. The 'vase' was a milk tin canned, haha! Voila!

Blessing Buddha Picture

Image
Saw a number of carved Buddha picture on sale in the market which are priced in thousands. I love the peacefulness but didn't want to pay for that price to own a piece, haha! In order for me to own one similar to that, I did a replica :P. I had a big piece of estimated A0 sized board hand-me-down from a ex-colleague, left in the store. I prepared another piece of muslin cloth big enough to cover the board. I sprayed both the board and the back side of the cloth with adhesive and stick both sides together carefully without crisp. Staple gun was used to gather those loose ends of the cloth nicely intact to the sides and back of the frame. When the frame is done, I started sketching the face of the Budhha using 6B pencil, and did the shading to give it some textured feel. Though it's quite a simple one, but the simplicity is just what I need to add some vibe to my balcony! A picture speak a thousand words, what...
