Time for Craft

I'm pretty satisfied with these pencil holders I've made from coloured felt pieces and a roll of yarn which I bought at Daiso, a $2 dollars departmental store in Singapore. As usual, I used toilet paper roll tube coupled with a round piece of cardboard as the base. These large commercial type of toilet paper roll tube are often end up in the trash of public toilets of commercial buildings or shopping centres. As I can't tolerate to leave these to waste, I've collected a number of them waiting to be my next makeover star! Take my words, they were from the cleaner aunties who reserved them for me and not taken from the trash ok:> Be inspired with the endless possibilities to make use of our trash! Until then, see you!

Looks like there're lots of touching up need to be done and there's a short of time before the fund raising day. I brought back some of the unfinished work left over by the students and started the patching up here and there. On the other hand, few of the counsellors did their part at their office, rushing out the rest of the products. All thanks to them! I digged out few of my coconut shells, painted them, and turn them into decorated plant pots. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a 'sellable' item. Really no idea how the fund raising will end up with, but I'm very glad all of us here did all our best to make this event possible...

I really had a hard time deciding whether to take up a course that falls on my son's 8 years old birthday. It was a 4 days intensive course, which mean I can't see him for 3 full days... It was heart breaking, as this is the first time I have to leave him (without me and my husband) to celebrate his big day... He was very understanding when we told him about our intention to attend the course. To make it an excitement to him, we arranged him to stay with my brother where he has his two cousins to accompany. It was a blessing, with the help of my dad, aunt, sisters and brother, everything went through smoothly and happily. I really appreciate for all their help making this journey possible.   Egg Carton is another recycled material I often used in my craft, reason being it's easy to collect and lots of crafts you can make with it. As I was invited to conduct a holiday craft workshop at the family service centre, teaching a craft that the children can easily replicate at home will be even greater. I make use of the rounded shape that comes in polyfoam fruit tray as the top of the mobile, with a string attached to the 4/5 corners. As the cutting of egg cartons requires certain strength and technique, some of the parts of the ladybug were precut for the younger children in advance. The children has lots of fun especially on the painting of the ladybugs and chopsticks, which I think it's due to the less chances they are expose to such media in school or at home. F or the very 1st time, I'm making my aunt a birthday gift. The fact was I just happened to know her birthday peeping at her identity card recently, so it's better late than none. For someone like her who will appreciate what's recycling, will definitely like what I craft for her. HeeHee... Heard of Shrink art ? It is a piece of Polyshrink that looks like a transparency (pvc sheet). Any artwork done on it will shrink 1/4 of its original size when heated up in the oven. The second pix above shown the original size that I've drawn and the shrinked art piece. Amazing right? Since she has just receive a new bunch of keys from her newly upgraded HDB flat, a keychain holder is timely. I chose a cow as it's her horoscope and attached a metal ring and chain recycled from a previous item to make it. Besides the shrink art keychain, I made a stationary holder with a Goosie egg mosaic art on it out from a toilet...

I' ts yet another pom pom project. Two cutie glass container made for Teachers' Day this time! What you need here are:- 1 Glass container with cover (I got mine from bird nest drink). You can collect from some baby food too. 1or2 thick colored yarn (to make into pom pom) 1 pipe cleaners ( to insert into centre of pom pom to make as the antennae) 2 little black beads as eyelets 1 bigger bead for the nose Some UHU glue Just make the pom pom and assemble everything together with dabs of UHU glue. Have some fun twisting the pipe cleaners to create cheeky and stunning looking pom pom.

If you have noticed, there're a certain type of canned food which are designed and manufactured in a way that each can be stacked firmly on top another. I made use of 5 nos. of such cans like the Nestle cream cans to create this long vase. Simply hot glue them one by one, labels peeled of course. Next, you need  a roll of your desired colored thread to twine them around starting either from the top or bottom. Apply UHU or craft glue as you go along so that the glue won't dry up before you. This is how I made these recycled cans come alive! The golden thread that I used here enhanced the whole look of the vase and make it looks pricey. Can you tell it's made from cans?
